Why so many Nepali fly to Thailand for vacation?

Thailand is the number one destination for Nepalese seeking to vacation overseas. Why? Because there are many beautiful beaches in Thailand. And we love beach.

If you were born and raised in Nepal, and never travelled outside of the country, chances are that you have never seen a beach in real life. Few of our rivers such as Narayani and Trishuli have sandy banks that look like a miniature version of a beach.

But the beach that we have all fallen in love, either from pictures or in hindi movies, looks something like this instead...

So, if you are also pondering your next vacation to Thailand, this article post might be of interest to you. Keep reading.....

Thailand is an Asian country whose population is little over two times that of Nepal (about 6.7 crores, Nepal is ~3 crores). Tourism is one of the main sources of revenue for Thailand's economy. In fact, tourism contributes larger percentage to Thailand's economy than in any Asian nation (I wish we could say that about Nepal).

Currency
Thai currency is called Baht, and the day of writing this post, 1 Baht = Nepali Rs. 3.08. In other words, if you booked your tour package with a travel agency for 45000 Nepal rupees per person, that's about 15000 baht.

Thai money has it's king's portrait in it, just like our old money.

If you didn't know, Thailand throned a new king in December 1, 2016 because the previous king (the new king's dad) died.

Climate:
Thailand's climate is tropical. There are three seasons:
March - May >> Hot season
June - October >> Rainy
November - February >> Cool (between 15-20 degree celsius)

Best time to travel Thailand for the Nepalese

From November to March, it is considered the peak tourist season in Thailand. September and October are less crowded months of the year for tourists and the weather may not be at its best.

Nepali outbound tourists season usually starts around September. That's when our holiday season begins (Ashwin/Kartik) for Dashain and Tihar. Most people are out of office and if you have kids, their school is on a long break as well. So, it is a perfect vacation time for everyone. As this article states, Nepalese are increasingly attracted to spend their Dashain/Tihar holidays overseas than in Nepal.

For Nepali, there are two advantages of going on a Kathmandu to Bangkok tour around this time of the year.

  • Weather-wise, September/October is almost towards the end of rainy season and start of cool season. So, the temperatures are favorable in Thailand.
  • You can avoid the peak tourists months of Nov-March and take advantage of discounted rooms and off-season rates.

Honey-mooners
Peak wedding season in Nepal is mid-Nov to mid-Dec (month of Mangsir). If you want to go on a romantic trip,  Krabi and Phuket are well known romantic gateways among the honeymooners.

Because the wedding season in Nepal is also the peak tourists season in Thailand, it's a perfect match for anyone who wants to take their honeymoon experience to the next height..

When choosing your vacation package from travel agents, make sure you tell them about your preference with regards to the places you want to visit, your budget, and the dates you want to travel. A good travel agent will give you few options to choose from.
